Hibiscus

Quilting in the Highlands Workshop with Melinda Bula

Look through the eyes of an artist as Melinda shows you how she builds her award winning fusible flower art quilts. You will learn the steps of developing a flower art quilt by how colour works to make a flower look real, how to use the fusible and lay out of design. Melinda encourages creativity while assisting those who may feel timid about colour and design. All skill levels can master these flowers and make them their own.  One the second day  you learn how to finish your flower quilt using Melinda’s technique, Renegade Thread Play, which is a simple method of free motion quilting (don’t get nervous – we’ll do a sample project using this technique before you try it on your flowers.) This technique adds detail and highlights to your flower quilt.  **Kit Required to be purchased for this class. **

Fantasy Meets at Midnight Michele Hill Fantasy Meets at Midnight

Quilting in the Highlands Workshop with Michele Hill

Michele has been asked so many times if this quilt is available as a pattern and the simple answer up until now has been No!

So Michele has decided to make the quilt into a once only workshop exclusively for Berrima Patchwork and Quilting in the Highlands. It was initially made in 2008 for the AQC challenge where participants had to construct a quilt in a set size interpreting the theme of “Fantasy”. “Fantasy to me was capturing images of griffins, unicorns and mythical creatures, so with my love of all things medieval I started doing some research. This led me to using images from 16th century Italian appliqué work.

In this workshop you will explore medieval
design as you create your own fantasy quilt. This design will be supplied but there is room for your own interpretation by repositioning creatures and flowers….and maybe even coming up with your own!  We will cover design principles, hand and machine appliqué and finally enhancing your work with hand embroidery and beading.

Date: Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st July
