Your Choice of Quilt
Your Choice of Quilt
Teacher: Anne Sommerlad
This year we welcome Anne to our teaching team. We had trouble choosing which quilt for Anne to teach and so instead we are giving you the option to choose. Anne will take you through the various technqiues required for the quilt you choose to complete. You have the choice of several different quilts that you can undertake, with each taking approximately 4 months to complete.
Quilts to choose from include:
- Columbine: This quilt is a great option for using several different quilting methods including foundation piecing, English paper pieceing, hand applique and machine piecing. Columbine gives scope for fussy cutting and is a nice way to use self-striped fabrics. Because there is not too much of any one technique used, it is an enjoyable and surprisingly quick quilt to complete.
- Country Garden: The photo doesn't do justice to this beautiful wall-hanging sized quilt! All of the blocks are hand-embroidered using a variety of different but basic stitches.
- Hanazono: This was a quilt that Anne designed as one of the raffle quilts for the Springwood High School Community Quilt Show. All the flowers are made with Hexagons. A great quilt for those who wish to learn or expand their knowledge of how to English Paper Piece.
- Tessa: Tessa is a versatile and not too complicated quilt. The Applique shapes are all quite large and not too fiddly and the hexagon motifs and swags allow great use of fabric in fussy cutting.
