Embroidery with Vicki Porter


This is a monthly class where you can stitch lots of different projects from needle cases, cushions to bags and quilts. Vicki is also happy to help you make up your projects into finished items. Even bring along a project you are working on if you need help. Beginners to advanced are all welcome. Sign up is for the term which is made up of 3 classes. Payment is $150 per term.

Lined Tins Workshop

We all have old tins and these make them extra special. Vicki will show you how to line your tin to give them a whole new look. On the day you can also work on the beautiful embroidered chatelaine to match your tin.

My Butterfly Garden Bag Workshop 

This beautiful stitchery features several different stitches and is suitable for all skill levels. You will start stitching on the day and full instructions will be provided for finishing this mini bag. The bag is perfect for storing all your sewing bits and pieces. The design will be pre-printed on the linen so you are ready to start stitching! This is a fun filled day of stitching.

Patchwork Cushion Workshop (Beginners Patchwork)

This is the perfect class if you have been interested in starting patchwork or want to learn more skills. During the workshop you will be working on two different sampler cushions that are easy to make and will give you the confidence to take on larger projects. Instructions will be given how to cut the required fabric, using a rotary cutter and then how to sew the block and cushions together. Patterns for two different designs will be given in the workshop. This is a great day to give you a taste of "patchwork"

Stack and whack Workshop (Beginners Patchwork)

This is one of our most popular workshops for all skill levels. It is great for beginners or for those who want to make an easy and simple quilt in a day. This quilt is fat quarter friendly and ideal to use up that fabric stash that most of us have. A fun day of sewing without stress and you will either have a finished or near finished quilt top at the end of it!

Red Bird Needlebook

Every sewer needs a needlebook and why not make a beautiful one that would look stunning in any sewing kit. Featuring the classic redwork design, Vicki will take you through the different stitches and how to finish the needlebook. Make it up and create the mini pincushion to match. This workshop is a relaxing and enjoyable day of stitching. The design will be preprinted onto linen so that you can start stitching straight away.

Sashiko Workshop

Sashiko is a form of Japanese embroidery. Featuring geometric and designs inspired by nature, it appeals to many. On the first day of this workshop we will look at several different designs, how  to stitch, materials to use and will start stitching on a preprinted sashiko panel.

On the second day you will create your own design using various sashiko patterns that can be stitched into a cushion, wallhanging or table runner.

Workshop fee includes the pre-printed panel, thread, needles and transfer pen.

My English Garden

Have you wanted to try your hand English Paper Piecing? Fussy cutting something you have been wanting to try but not too sure how to go about it? Then this is the perfect workshop. Vicki will take you through the sets of how to create your hexagons and other shapes using paper pieces, fussy cut and sew them together and then to applique onto your background fabric. You will get a small part of this cushion finished in the workshop and have the confidence and instructions to complete it.

Class Fee: $65 class fee includes the required English Paper Piecing papers

The Birdhouse Mini Bag

This mini drawstring bag features a beautiful embroidery panel pocket full of flowers and a birdhouse. In this workshop you will be working on the embroidery, stitching selection of stitches including buttonhole, stem stitch, colonial knots and others. The design will be pre-printed on the linen so you are ready to start stitching and instructions will be provided on how to finish the bag.

This is a great day of stitching to expand and develop your embroidery skills.

This is a new event for us this year. This is a weekend of sit, sewing and stitching – whether you like embroidery, English paper piecing, handwork, knitting and more this is the perfect event to attend and to work on whatever project you like. It is about having fun and meeting new people. Get a group of friends together or come by yourself and have an enjoyable weekend away. There will be giveaways throughout the weekend and everyone will receive a goodies bags containing a mini kit from both Amberwood Designs and Berrima Design and more goodies! Stitching in the Highlands will be held at Mittagong RSL, there are several accommodation options in the area. Food is not included in the fee however the RSL has a selection of meal/drink and food options.

Workshops have a maximum of 8 students. Tea, Coffee and Morning tea are provided in all workshops. We have a fridge in the classroom if you wish to bring your own lunch or there are several food outlets in the town. For those workshops that are only 1 day in duration we ask for full payment at time of booking. This is non-refundable, however it is transferable to a friend if you are not able to attend. For workshops that are for a term 50%  deposit is required at time of booking and this is non-refundable, however it is transferable to a friend if you are not able to attend. The remainder of the workshop fee is due one the first day of the workshop. It is the student's responsibility to pay this amount on time otherwise your place may be cancelled in the class. Your place is not booked in a workshop until this fee/deposit is paid. Berrima Patchwork does not accept responsibility for changes in the personal circumstances of it’s students. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to lack of numbers, if this occurs students will receive a full refund of payments made.
Mobile phones are allowed in the classroom but only when turned to silence or vibrate. No guests or children may accompany students in the classroom at any time. We reserve the right to change these conditions at any time without notice and to decline enrolments.
